There is a romantic moodiness to the space as well, thanks to dark flooring by Metro Brick, dim lighting, and plenty of luxurious texture. Another beloved space is the screened-in porch just off the living room, where Hardenburg created a more bohemian feel with built-in turquoise leather barstools, a sofa found on a scouting trip to Los Angeles, and a custom table with inlaid Moroccan tile and glass. The bright colors and leather details are a contrast to the rest of the home’s gentle tones of blue and cream.

Hardenburg didn’t mind that the 1938 house was much smaller than the previous home of her family of six–she loved its gracious proportions and all the potential it offered, so she took out her sketchbook and went to work.

Aside from the boys’ and girls’ bunkrooms, which received vivid splashes of color, Tracy kept the palette soothing and neutral. “It feels calming and sophisticated but all the layers are still casual in themselves,” Tracy says. “I put more effort in the textures than lots of color.”
